Early 1950’s introduced 02 young chemical engineers, Masood Hasan (MH) and M.A Allawala (MA), to each other, holding Post Graduate Chemical Engineering Degrees from Case Western Cleveland - USA and from Illinois Institute of Technology – USA, respectively. Having an entrepreneurial & technology driven mindset, both had the synergy of thoughts and progressed through their careers in the industrialization phase of Pakistan with sound belief that “technology achieves”.
In 1977, at the peak of their illustrious careers spanning energy & resources, petroleum refining, petrochemicals, transportation, other process and mechanical industries, water & power etc., MH and MA came together to establish EMMAY Associates, a company of Energy and Management Consultants with offices in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
Later, two very senior engineers came on board as well namely Abul Kalam and Dr. Wajid after his retirement from Attock Refinery.
MH and Abul Kalam had also served as Secretary Production – Ministry of Defense (during the time of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto) and Secretary Railways (during the time of General Zia-Ul-Haq) respectively.
EMMAY team’s immense wealth of technical depth of know-how, which accumulated through working/operating/developing/establishing & restructuring organizations like Lever Brothers, Wazir Ali Industries, Packages Pvt. Ltd., Pakistan Ordinance Factories (POF), SUPARCO, Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra, , Heavy Rebuild Factory (HRF) Taxila, United Consultants, Pakistan Railways, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA), State Petroleum Refining and Petrochemical Corporation Ltd. (PERAC), National Refinery Ltd. (NRL), Attock Oil Refinery (ARL), Oil & Gas Development Corporation (OGDC), Pakistan National Oil Ltd., Enar Petrotech Services Ltd.; provided a unique blend of expertise under one roof.
Whilst EMMAY rendered its services to national & international institutions in the specialism mentioned above, this also included some of the institutions but not limited to the likes of the World Bank, ILO, OPEC, USAID, GTZ (now GIZ) and various Petroleum companies. EMMAY’s organization quickly gained the repute of having an independent approach to problems and this made it easier for the team to implement their recommendations themselves.
EMMAY also associated on occasions with other organizations to form strategic associations / collaborations / joint ventures for specializations that EMMAY they did not have. Their recommendations included both policy and strategic projects as well as being able to advise on ground level problems.
